San Francisco’s marine climate keeps temperatures mild but persistently damp: fog rolls in most mornings and the salt-laden air accelerates corrosion on exposed metal components. Every structural connection and hardware specification is chosen for coastal durability. The city’s Seismic Zone 4 designation also requires that freestanding structures be anchored against lateral movement, and San Francisco’s permit process for ADUs and accessory structures is among the most detailed in the state; we’ve navigated it before.

HOW IT’S MADE

Thermally Modified Timber. Steel Frame. Proven Layouts.

A sauna places unusual demands on its materials and structure. Every structural component, timber selection, and heating system is chosen for how it performs, how it ages, and how it contributes to the room over time. Where the project calls for it, assemblies are also developed with WUI fire safety, seismic requirements, and high-wind exposure in mind.

Thermally Modified Spruce

Timber selected for dimensional stability, moisture resilience, and long-term behavior under heat.

Structural Steel Base

A stable frame designed to keep the structure solid, aligned, and reliable during transport or demanding site conditions.
